Week 10 Listening Blog Post

I Wanna Be Sedated

by The Ramones

I critically listened to this song three times. This is a fun song with a good beat. The style/genre of this song Alternative/Indie Rock. It's more like a punk rock. This song includes the electric guitar, bass, and drum. It follows a good four-beat but there are some examples of syncopation in the melody, where the notes are played off-beat. My favorite part of this song is the vocals! The lead singer, Joey Ramone has a cool sound to his voice. I also enjoy the part where there is a guitar solo at second 55. It creates a cool emphasis on the pause of the vocals. My other favorite part is where they start singing "Ba ba ba ba" at minute 2:00 to begin ending the song into a fade. The riff in this song includes the electric guitar and is repeated throughout the whole song. This song is form AABA. This song was written when the Ramones were in the UK during Christmas and everything was shut down so they had nothing to do. They were really bored so they just watched movies... hence the "nothing to do, no where to go...I wanna be sedated." This song was about their boredom. Overall enjoyed this song and the rock feeling!

  1. While I am not such a huge fan of punk rock, I have to agree this song is pretty cool. I also enjoyed the solos, especially Joey Ramone's. Amazing how their song may be about boredom and yet their intention is that the audience does not become bored of their song like they were watching movies.

  3. Punk rock is one of my favorite genres and love that is making a comeback with artists from different genres like Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. The Ramones are a great band and I recommend to listen to more of their work as they really captured the Punk Rock as a genre with their appearance and musical style.
